FREE-FLOWING
When they removed a wall between the kitchen and breakfast nook,

Tanja and her husband, Tim Prof eta, got the open floor
plan they loved in a former house. To unite the kitchen, nook, and
den, Tanja repeated key elements in all three rooms: oak flooring
pendant light fixtures, and white woodwork.
PRACTICALLY GREEN
Tanja and Tim, both attorneys who work on environmental issues,
chose fixtures and surfaces with sustainability and efficiency in mind,
above.
A large window and skylights maximize natural light; a
prefinished floor kept fumes out of the house; and the island is
topped with reclaimed elm wood Tanja found on the Internet
GROWTH SPURT
Ana, 7, and Tim,

size themselves up at the remodeled
stairway that leads to her bedroom. The family sacrificed an upstairs
